Hey guys!

If you remember, last week I made a post about my first ever order from Candles From the Keeping Room (CFTKR).  Since then, I have had some time to melt many of the scents, and it was quite enough to give me a good idea of what CFTKR is all about.

First, I’d like to talk about the bakery scents.  These are what CFTKR is most famous for, and I was really excited to get started melting these tarts, even though it’s in the 100’s in Louisiana and these scents can sometimes make the air feel quite heavy.

The first tart I melted from was order was one of the Butterscotch Oatmeal Thumbprints.  On the CFTKR website it is described as “a sweet oatmeal cookie laced with yummy bits of butterscotch candies.”  And yes, this was exactly what I got.  The nutty oatmeal was the first note I picked up while it was melting, but I could definitely pick out the sweet, buttery candy scent too.  I just wished this was a tiny bit stronger.  I only used one of the cookies in my melter though, perhaps I should have used two.  I’m on the fence about it, but I don’t think this is a scent I would buy again.  I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Next up was Ultimate Cheesecake.  This scent came highly recommended by many CFTKR fans.  I love to eat cheesecake, but I had never before experienced it in a tart, so I wasn’t sure about it.  The CFTKR site describes Ultimate Cheesecake as, “An ultimate cheesecake with a just a little spice to it…it really is the best cheesecake around.”  They come in really cute little pie shapes that are just the right size for my melter bowl.

This was probably my third favorite tart out of all those I have tried from CFTKR so far.  To me, the top note was definitely a cinnamon graham cracker.  I detected a creamy, tangy note but it was under the spicy scent.  I did really love the tart as whole though.  For me, this one threw well for about 4-5 hours.  I’m pretty sure I would buy a CFTKR cheesecake scent again.  I’m looking forward to trying some of the cheesecake blends.  I give Ultimate Cheesecake 4 out of 5 stars.

The next tarts I tried were Caramelized Apple Praline Zucchini Bread.  Carol (the owner of CFTKR) is well known for her zucchini bread blends.  I really love caramelized apple scents, and I am a huge ZB fan, so I knew I couldn’t go wrong ordering this scent.  On the CFTKR website the caramelized apple scent is described as, “our sweet apple mixed with a caramel and pralines..sweet yet has the apple to give tone down the sweetness.”

I melted 2 of these tarts, which were in cute little toast shapes that I adore.  This scent was my favorite, no surprise there.  What I loved about this scent is that it is complex, but you can definitely pick out every separate part while it is melting.  The strongest note is the buttery praline.  It was released almost as soon as the tarts got into the melter.  The second, slightly less strong note is the zucchini bread, but it is still spectacular, and I can see why CFTKR fans rave about it.  The apple is there too, but almost as an afterthought.  I will most assuredly buy more tarts in this scent.  The throw was great and the buttery notes lasted even after I had dumped the wax.  I give this scent 5 out of 5 stars.

Another scent I ordered was Sour Cream Spice Cake.  This is a newer addition to CFTKR’s ever growing fragrance list, but it had already proved quite popular on the CFTKR Facebook page, so I decided to give it a try.  The scent is described as, “Toasted nuts, rich butter and warm spices blend with this classic accord of sour cream cake tones to engage the senses. Sweet creamy vanilla adds a tempting finish to the spiced cake.”  I melted one of the cute little grubby cakes in my melter.

I did detect a creamy note in this, but it was more like a cheesecake rather than a sour cream.  I did get a lot of the vanilla.  The spicy cinnamon notes were these, but not as prominent as I would have liked.  To be honest, this scent smelled very similar to the CFTKR Zucchini Bread.  Not that that is a bad thing, at all.  I did end up loving this scent.  This is another that I wished was a little bit stronger, but like I said before, maybe I should have melted more than one cake.  I would probably buy this again.  I give Sour Cream Spice Cake 4 out of 5 stars.

Pumpkin and Praline was my final bakery type scent.  This was another yummy blend.  Usually, pumpkin scents are very spicy, but this scent is overwhelmingly buttery praline.  The spicy pumpkin undertone is there, but it is a little hard to detect.  These tarts also came in the adorable pie shapes.  Carol’s praline is so delicious, I would have no problem buying more of this scent.  I give it a 4 out of 5, only because I wish the spice was a little more prominent.

I did also order some non-bakery scents, which included a sampler of various Pink Sugar blends, and a scent called Falling Leaves.

Falling Leaves is described as, “It is everything fall is. It is crisp leaves under your feet when you are walking through the park on a misty day. It is refreshing, delightful and clean. It is the cool brisk air and the smell of fall.”  This bag of tarts came in lovely little leaf shapes, and beautiful autumn colors.

I really wanted to like this scent, as autumn is my favorite season, and I love the unmistakable feeling you get when the air is changing.  I was sad to discover that this scent was not for me.  There was no problem with the throw; I used 2 of the leaves in my melter and the scent filled my living room and hallway.  However, there was a powdery undertone to this that I did not like at all.  I also did get mostly a woodsy note.  To me, this scent smells like an older man’s cologne.  It may be for some people, but not for me 🙂  I give Falling Leaves a 2 out of 5.

Finally, I got a Pink Sugar (PS) sampler containing 6 different pink sugar blend tarts.  I have so far melted Pink Sugar Passionberry and PS Confetti.  Carol may not necessarily be famous for her Pink Sugar scents, but in my opinion, she should be.  Pink Sugar Passionberry was sweet and mouthwateringly delicious.  Pink Sugar Confetti was very nice and girly; it reminded be of a sweet sugar candy.  I cannot wait to try the rest of my PS blends.  I am so glad I got a sampler so I can find out which scents I need to order an entire bag of!

I was overall very pleased with the order I received from Candles from the Keeping Room.  I discovered some delicious praline scents.  What I really love the most about CFTKR’s scents is that they are very true to what the description says they are.  I will be ordering from Carol again in the future, and I hope you will try her goodies too…if you haven’t already!
