BOOK TOUR INTERVIEW: Dark Side of Purgatory by LJ Hadaway

DARK SIDE OF PURGATORY
By L.J. Hadaway

Jaxon Slater was the life-of-the-party guy until one day he woke up in Purgatory. He runs into a mean bunch of …guys…an unlikely guide and… possible redemption. His quest is finding a certain young woman and steering her away from the path of Destruction that killed him. He will need to face the wreckage of his past. Old temptations linger. Dark forces shadow his path.

I got to interview the author, Ms. Hadaway for my tour stop.

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

I have worked in the Human Services field for a long time. I go for the underdog. I love Ford Mustangs, classic, 1964. I love reading, quilting, picnicking by the ocean, and Costco cheesecake. My passion is writing, but my love passion is my family.
2. What made you want to become a writer?

When I was very young I had a terrible stuttering problem and some words were even difficult for me to pronounce. Also, my father was alcoholic- wonderful when he was sober- horrible when he was drinking- so my writing gave me an escape into my own world, and gave me the freedom of expressing myself without having to force the words out of my mouth.

3. Who or what gives you inspiration?

People, crazy thoughts running through my head, things I hear.

4. Tell us about Dark Side of Purgatory.

Jaxon Slater is the heart breakin’ bad boy. He’s the guy our mothers warned us about. He is handsome, charismatic, life-of-the-party guy. He is a drug addict. He’s tried to get straight- but unable to hang on to sobriety for very long. Now, he’s dead in Purgatory. He has one chance to redeem himself.

I call it my addiction, recovery novel with a paranormal twist.

5. What’s the hardest part of being a writer?

Getting stuck in the middle of the story. I compare it to the seven year itch—( for those too young to know what that is- ask your mother- it has to do with marriage and/or a movie with Marilyn Monroe) the story and characters are familiar to me now..no hidden surprises. It’s like riding a bicycle up a steep hill, nearly giving up. Suddenly, you’re at the top! And the down race is on.

6. What do you need around you to write (special drink, lucky items, etc)?
Some form of quietness. Meaning, hearing children playing- without arguing… a hot cup of tea, and my Thesaurus close by.

7. What are some of your favorite books?

The Women’s Room, by Marilyn French. Sybil. The Runaway Jury, by John Grisham. The Old Man and The Sea, by Hemingway.

8. Are your characters based on anyone you know?

Pieces of my characters I have stolen. Or borrowed.

9. What, if anything, are you working on right now?

I am actually working on a sequel to Dark Side Of Purgatory.

10. Why do you love writing?

It’s fun to have the “power” to create your own world- be adventurous- make up characters with whatever personality traits you want them to have- to be able to have someone do something I could never- or would never do- in real life. The ability to make a character that everyone will hate! To look in to my “dark side” and wonder, if I was that person…what would I do next! It takes me into a wonderful make believe world- and what’s even better- is that other people enter my world! The read my typed words and tell me why they love or hate someone I have made up in my mind.

Playing with Barbie and Ken….and the evil Queen. In other words, it’s my play time!

About the Author:

I live in a small town in Washington State near the Cascade Mountains. I have worked in the Human Services field for thirty years, mainly in chemical addition. My writing genre has taken me to different arenas: suspense- One Step Ahead Of Danger, contemporary-Life Choices and now, with Dark Side Of Purgatory, the paranormal.

Writing has always been a great passion of mine and seeing my books published in the last few years, has certainly made my dreams come true.
