Bout of Books Read-a-thon 2012
Well, this is my first read-a-thon here at SSH, and I am super excited! I am actually really glad for the little nudge to read more, as I have PLENTY of books for tours and ARC reviews I need to get done.
Here is a little more about what BoB is all about 🙂
You were going to read that week anyway, right? Read with us.The Bout of Books Read-a-Thon was created by Amanda @ On a Book Bender on a complete whim in August 2011*. It took on a life of its own and was such a hit that Amanda decided to do it again and turn it into a somewhat regular occurrence. There are no set dates for Bout of Books; rather, Amanda tries to work with Bout of Books participants to determine the best dates for them.
However, there are a few things about Bout of Books that will always stay the same.
- It is a week long read-a-thon, usually from 12:01am on a Monday through 11:59pm on a Sunday in whatever time zone you are in.
- Bout of Books is low pressure, meaning participants are only asked to push themselves to read more than they normally would during any given week. There is no competition between readers.
- How much time a reader wants, and can commit, to read, tweet, or network with fellow bloggers is left to individual preference. All challenges and giveaways are optional.
- Networking with fellow bloggers is actively encouraged, though never required. Co-hosts are there to facilitate blog hopping and interaction between participants.
- Use Twitter to post updates throughout the read-a-thon. Everyone will be tweeting with the #boutofbooks hashtag.
So, here is what I hope to read this week:
Blood Rites (Grey Wolves Series, Book 2) by Quinn LoftisJust One Drop (Grey Wolves Series, Book 3) by Quinn LoftisStraight to Hell (Lilith Straight Series, Book 1) by Michelle ScottThe Milestone Tapes by Ashley Mackler-PaternostroGift by Andrea Buchanan- Wizard by Paula Paul
Dead Beautiful by Melanie Dugan- The Other Life by Suzanne Winnacker
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Six books…should be hopefully doable! I also have a ton of books on NetGalley and I hope I can get to some of those. This weekend I will be with my in-laws, and my husband’s birthday is on Friday so we will be going out 🙂 but other than that I will devote as much time to reading as is possible with my 3 year old!
UPDATES:
PRE-CHALLENGE UPDATE: Over the weekend I actually finished The Milestone Tapes and Blood Rites ;P soooo I updated the list above!
DAY 1: On the road from my Mother’s Day weekend and spending time unpacking alllll day. Tired when I got home, so fell asleep without getting much reading done!
PAGES READ: 60, BOOKS FINISHED: 0
DAY 2: Woke up feeling very very nauseated, so I ended up going back to bed and taking a nap. When I woke up I finished Straight to Hell by Michelle Scott, and started Dead Beautiful by Melanie Dugan. Both books are for tours.
Participating in Nyx Book Reviews‘ super fun Day 2 challenge! Here are my answers for her “This or That Questions.” 🙂
PAGES READ: 230, BOOKS FINISHED: 1
DAY 3: I am so not in a reading mood today and I don’t know why…I just want to spend all day looking at Tumblr. Anyway, I finished Dead Beautiful by Melanie Dugan and I liked it a lot! I will be starting Gift by Andrea Buchanan later tonight.
Participating in Books Devoured’s mini-challenge today. I must re-title a book just by looking at a cover. Here is my choice:
BLOOD SONG
ZOMG BIRD ATTACK, RUN!!!!!
PAGES READ: 158 , BOOKS READ: 1
DAY 4: I ended up starting Ready Player One by Ernest Cline lastnight, and I got really into it…I know it wasn’t on my goals list but whatever. I read a little bit of Gift but I just ended up falling asleep.
We had our hot water heater go out yesterday, so that is something I will need to deal with today and who knows how much reading I’ll be able to do. I do want to read some more of Ready player One, though!!
I’m not participating in the Zombie mini-challenge today because I already have the book they are giving away as a prize. 🙂
PAGES READ: 110, BOOKS READ: 0,
DAY 5: Today was my husband birthday and I did not get to read allllll day. We went out for lunch, then shopped a bit and when we came home we had to help my in laws replace our busted water heater. Then, I made his birthday cake…only to burn it so I had to make it again!! By the time I got in bed I was exhausted and only read a chapter of Ready Player One. I also gave up on reading Gift because it just didn’t grab me within the first 50 pages. Another one for the DNF pile.
PAGES READ: 30, BOOKS READ: 0
DAY 6: Slept late today but my hubby is working tonight so I should be able to get some reading in a bit later!!
PAGES READ: 290,BOOKS READ: 1
DAY 7: Last day!! I finished Ready Player One last night and it was AWESOME SAUCE!! I totally recommend it if you are an 80’s nerd or a gamer 🙂 I also started Just One Drop. Today I will start (and try to finish) Wizard. This should allow me to make my goal for the week!!
Thanks so much to Jen from Not Now I’m Reading and Kelsey of Kelsey’s Cluttered Bookshelf for today’s easy peasy giveaways!!
I’d also like to thank our BoB hosts for being so awesome this week! You guys rock 🙂 And finally, thanks so much to everyone who has stopped by and commented on this post, it really means a lot.
