BOOK TOUR REVIEW: Wait for You by J. Lynn

Wait for You

by J. Lynn (Jennifer Armentrout)

New Adult Contemporary

Book Description

Some things are worth waiting for . . .

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at that fateful Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. What she never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing . . .

Cameron Hamilton is six feet, three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, com-plete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make Avery want things she believed had been irrevocably stolen from her. Getting involved with him is dangerous. Yet ignoring the simmering tension that sparks between them—and brings out a side of her she never knew existed—is impossible.

Some things shouldn’t be kept quiet . . .

But when Avery starts receiving threatening e-mails and phone calls, she’s forced to face a past she wants to keep buried and acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. If the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface with one less scar? And will Cam be there to help her?

And some things are worth fighting for . . .

MY THOUGHTS: 3.5 OUT OF 5 FLEURS DE LIS

Wait for You by J. Lynn

I truly do appreciate the new adult genre, but lately I’m having a lot of trouble loving the NA books I’ve read. I’ve mentioned this in previous book reviews, but it bears repeating: new adult contemporary books have so much in common, sometimes it feels like you’re meeting the same characters and the same predictable plots in each book.

However, I am a fan of Jennifer Armentrout’s Obsidian series, and to me, her characters, not her plot, is where she shines. This book was positive for me because I loved the way Cam and Avery interacted with each other. Each of them on their own is OK (Cam is almost too perfect), but together they are a charismatic couple.

My main annoyance in this book was that Avery felt so much needed to be hidden from Cam. Now, I’m not saying that she should have blurted out the truth about her past within days of meeting him, but when it was obvious that they began heading towards a relationship, it was time to lay everything out in the open. Cam did so, and Avery became something of a hypocrite as truth began shining. The thing that got me is she KNEW how much she was doing wrong, she just couldn’t bring herself to do it right until it was almost too late.

I also thought the reasoning behind the threatening texts and emails was a little puzzling. I can’t reveal too much since it would be a spoiler, but let’s just say I thought it was a reach.

For obvious reasons, Cam and Avery took a while to get to the sexual part of their relationship. I’m not sure how I felt about their first time…it was nice, but wish it would have happened in a better place. Oh well.

Overall, this was a sweet, but typical, new adult offering. I see this is the first in a series, but I am not sure if I will continue with it. Jenn Armentrout’s supernatural books are more up my alley.
