BOOK TOUR REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Not Pretty Enough by Jaimie Admans

Not Pretty Enough

by Jaimie Admans

YA Comedy

Book Description

“New Year’s Resolutions:
1. Lloyd Layton will know I exist. He once said three whole words to me, so this is obviously progress. If I don’t get a proper conversation out of him soon, then I’ll take my top off and streak through the cafeteria, because nobody could fail to notice these boobs.
2. I will not get expelled for streaking through the cafeteria.”
Those are the words that begin her mission.
Chessie is fourteen, not pretty enough, and very much in love. Lloyd Layton is hot, popular, and unaware of Chessie’s existence.
Her goal is clear: to get Lloyd to love her as much as she loves him, and she has exactly one year to do it.
As Chessie’s obsession with Lloyd reaches boiling point and she starts to spin a web of lies that spiral out of control, Lloyd turns out to be not quite the prince she thought he was. Can Chessie avoid the gathering storm before things go too far?

MY THOUGHTS: 4 OUT OF 5 FLEURS DE LIS

Not Pretty Enough by Jaimie Admans

This was a cute and quick read. Chessie is immensely likable, though sometimes I had to marvel at how foolish she was being. Haven’t we all been there though, in pursuit of our crush?

I don’t think you can get any more awkward than you are at fourteen years old. And to be fourteen, and not have the love of your life know you exist, is a special kind of pain. So it’s no wonder that sometimes Chessie puts too much thought, and often none at all, into getting Lloyd’s attention. Chessie’s problem, in her mind, is that her boobs are too big. Trust me, I know from experience–when you have huge boobs as a teenager, all the boys notice.

In trying to impress Lloyd, Chessie ends up having countless mishaps, and does such things as dyeing her hair green, sneezing all over him, and stabbing him in the foot with a javelin. Just when I thought nothing worse could happen to this girl, there is an unfortunate incident involving the school pool, and her period. It’s all a bit unbelievable, but I guess I can take it for comic effect.

Unfortunately, I’ve also been in the position Chessie is in towards the end, when she finds the truth about her crush. Can I just say, thank God most of us do not marry who we are in love with when we’re fourteen?

I enjoyed this book a lot because it brought me right back to those excruciating high school days. Thankfully, I’m old enough now to know that those weren’t the best times of my life. If you’re currently suffering from an unrequited love…believe me, life gets better!
